GESS 2021 First Place Award in Innovation in Education
Earlier this year, Global Educational Supplies and Solutions (GESS) gave us the awesome news that we have been shortlisted as finalists for the Innovation in Education category for the efforts and energy we put into finding a way to bridge the distances and gaps between school and students during the pandemic. Remember the Minecraft replica of our school ?
Here’s a quick update of what’s been happening in school after receiving the GESS 2021 first place award in Innovation in Education in Dubai:
The Esports program has been so successful that BBS and its students have since gone on to establish their own esports club, the BBS Bulldogs - the first academic esports club in Kuwait.
Our Esports club grew, and students have now participated in eight different competitive Minecraft Education tournaments both locally and against schools around the world, including the US, Australia, and Hong Kong. We have received recognition and support from local sponsors and organisations for developing the first in-school gaming bootcamp in Kuwait. Today, BBS Esports club has expanded to other games such as Chess, Rocket League and FIFA, and has paved the way for esports to become part of the Middle School curriculum. We are now establishing a MENA School Esport Conference - the first of its kind in the region!
I am now teaching a cross-curricular academic esports elective course at our middle school (also the first of its kind in Kuwait), which is now being adopted by two other private schools in the country, and more schools from neighboring countries have expressed interest.
